Ladies' Guild
Since the early 1950s when the Guild was formed, it has raised money for outreach (Missions) and Parish equipment. St George’s has place settings of crockery and cutlery for 70 people and St David’s, until the hall was built, had 100 place settings.
With the building of the hall the Guild undertook to equip the kitchen and since 1991 over $40,000 has been raised for this project. Tables, cloths, cutlery, crockery, glasses, chairs and kitchen cupboards have been supplied. Many other items have also been contributed, for example a PA system, albs, heaters and security lights.
During this same period a total of $40,000 has been donated to the Anglican Board of Mission, St Bartholomew’s Home for Men, Anglicare, and Parkerville Homes for Children.
This past year the Guild has raised $3,519.30 by holding fashion
parades and luncheons. Donations paid to Anglican organisations are
as follows:
- Anglican Board of Mission $1,500.00
- Anglicare $600.00
- Parkerville Homes for Children $600.00
- St Bartholomew’s Home for Men $600.00, and
- Chaplaincy at Applecross High School $150.00
These amounts raised have been possible by the good response from
the Parish family and we thank all who give so willingly of their
time and talents.
We hope to continue these activities and we invite all to support
our functions and to join in the fun.

Mother's Union
The Mothers’ Union was formed in England in 1876 by Mary Sumner, the wife of the Vicar of Old Arlesford, Winchester. It has grown to be one of the largest women’s organisations worldwide with members in 71 countries.
The first Branch in Australia was established in Tasmania in 1892 and, progressing with the times, membership is now open to both female and male members.
Our Parish Branch was formed by the Revd Sands of South Perth Parish at St George’s in July 1940. Currently we have a viable and active Branch but to continue in our present form we need a regular influx of new members.
The Branch meets on the 3rd Monday of each month – 1.30 pm at St George’s. There is a short service from the MU Service Book – followed by a business meeting and then a guest speaker or activity – afternoon tea and fellowship is the usual format. As a Branch we do visit outside places of interest and have a social end of year function.
We do not fund raise as such
but we:
- Support King Edward
Memorial Hospital – knitting clothes for the premature babies;
- Support Anglicare –
knitting strips and squares for their annual rug appeal;
- Run a Bring and Buy Stall
in aid of MU Overseas and Northern Outreach; and
- Collect linen for St
Bartholomew’s.
- ‘Lady Day’ in St George’s Cathedral;
- ‘Quiet Day’;
- ‘Wave of Prayer Day’; and
the
- Area Festival of Southern
Area Branches. Parishioner Joy Magee was
presented with her 50 year membership badge at the recent Area
Festival.
