CHOIR

organPart of the beauty of what we do and achieve (with the challenges of wide and varied music backgrounds) is the combined effort of our members towards a greater goal.

St David’s Choir is formed on the basic premise that all people are innately musical. A perceived lack of musical ability should not be an obstacle to taking part in music; our ability as musicians develops and progresses as we take part in making music. In other words, we ‘learn on the job’. Because of this basic premise, our choir’s members are drawn from wide and varied backgrounds; from little or no experience to advanced musical training.

The choir rehearses a wide range of repertoire, drawn from all eras of composition, throughout the year. As usual, Easter and Christmas are focal points in the Choir’s calendar and the choir has hosted afternoon workshops followed by Evensong at various times throughout the year. We have also held ‘Easy Music Month’ to encourage congregation members to join us without the stress of preparing for a festival such as Easter or Christmas.

We are also endeavouring to sing at the St George’s services on the 5th Sunday of the month when it arises.

We would like to encourage everyone to come along and give choir a go; the ability to sing or read music is not necessary. The best time to have a go is in-between the major festivals of Easter and Christmas, when there is not as much pressure to learn repertoire to a strict deadline.

Rehearsals are in the choir loft on Wednesday Nights from 7.30 to 9.30pm. The choir sings at the 1st and 3rd Sunday services of each month.
